"Sophisticated, avant-garde and international in scope, C has always been the one among its art-world brethren that has firmly regarded Canadian art in a global context. Clever, cheeky, erudite but never academic, its perspective has made it unique, and inspired loyalty in the arts community"--Toronto Star

About C
C is Canada's premier magazine on international contemporary art. In addition to emphasizing international-Canadian links in its mandate, C's editorial staff and contributors are posted around the globe, writing variously from Berlin, LA, and London, as well as major international art festivals such as the Venice Biennale, Art Basel and the Armory Show.

C's publishing history is over 20 years strong, having published its first edition in 1984. Its long-term stability has been supported and nurtured by the volunteer board of directors who oversee C The Visual Arts Foundation, a registered not-for-profit organization.

C's main office is based in Toronto, Canada and publishes quarterly on March 1, June 1, September 1 and December 1. The magazine is published with the assistance of the Ontario Arts Council, the Canada Council and the Government of Canada's Publications Assistance Program.

C is distributed to retailers throughout Canada, the United States and Europe and has a number of Asian subscribers. Its content is indexed in ARTbibliographies, the Canadian Business & Current Affairs Index (Micromedia Ltd.), BHA (Bibliography of the History of Art) and is available online in the Canadian Business & Current Affairs Database.

Mandate
C magazine offers writing about art that is engaged without being prescriptive; intellectual without being academic; political without being merely polemical; proudly Canadian without being provincial. It is not individual articles or artists' projects that are the measure of our success, but the mix and balance of perspectives, the wide range of work – from work in artist-run centres, major museums and international mega-shows.

C's audience consists of those with an interest in (or curiosity about) contemporary art--including, but not limited to, those who work in visual art and related professions (theatre, film, architecture, etc.). CÌs mandate is to explore ideas related to contemporary art in a way that is relevant to those in-the-know and yet accessible to those whose primary area of interest or training may be outside of art history, philosophy or aesthetics.
