2011 Competition Results
C Magazine is proud to announce the winner of this year's C New Critics Competition:
First place, Kari Cwynar
Review of Models for Taking Partat the Presentation House Gallery, Vancouver
Kari Cwynar is an emerging curator and art historian based in Banff, Canada. She recently completed her MA in Art History at Carleton University and holds a BAH in Art History from Queen's University. Cwynar's graduate research focuses on contemporary curatorial models in museum collections, specifically examining the Art Gallery of Ontario's 2008 rehang and expansion. She is currently completing a Curatorial Research Work Study at The Banff Centre, where she is researching sincerity in contemporary art and organizing a series of related exhibitions.
Second place, Emmy Skensved
Emmy Skensved is a Canadian artist currently based in Berlin, Germany. She received her MFA from the University of Waterloo, Canada in 2007 and her BFA from OCAD University in 2005. She has exhibited her work both in Canada and in Europe, including solo shows at Greener Pastures Contemporary Art in Toronto and September Gallery in Berlin. In 2009 she was a finalist in the Tenth Annual RBC Painting Competition, which traveled to the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa, Musée d'Art Contemporain, Montreal and the Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver. She has also been the recipient of numerous awards, including research and production grants from both the Toronto Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts.
